Department for Balancing Studies and Care Responsibilities

Department for Balancing Studies and Care Responsibilities

Studying while simultaneously taking responsibility for other people can present particular challenges in everyday university life.

The Department for Balancing Studies and Care Responsibilities is a point of contact for students who have care responsibilities alongside their studies. This includes, for example, caring for and raising children, caring for or supporting relatives, as well as other forms of regular unpaid care work.

We want to help make care responsibilities and studying more compatible and ensure that the perspectives of students with care responsibilities are visible within the AStA and to the university.

Tell us what your issue is, and we’ll forward your message directly to the responsible department.
Your message is not processed through any external service provider.
Please note: We can only help you if you provide us with the necessary information about your request.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Our social and financial assistance services are exclusively intended for students enrolled at Hochschule Niederrhein. We cannot process inquiries from students at other universities or higher education institutions, or from students in other federal states. Please contact the AStA or student services organization at your own university or higher education institution.

2.

Our Work in Higher Education Policy

In addition to providing individual support, we also see ourselves as advocates for students with care responsibilities.

We are committed to ensuring that their realities and needs are given greater consideration in university decision-making and that studying can be organised as flexibly and free from discrimination as possible.

A particular concern of ours is the situation of students who care for relatives. Their burdens and needs have often been less visible in everyday university life than those of student parents, for example. We want to help ensure that caring responsibilities are also more widely recognised and taken into account.

Our goal is a university where care responsibilities do not become an obstacle to successfully completing a degree.

3.

Exchange and Networking

Care responsibilities can have a significant impact on everyday student life. Connecting with other students in similar situations can therefore be helpful.

We want to create opportunities for networking and welcome ideas, requests, and experiences from students. Your feedback helps us identify existing problems and initiate improvements in cooperation with the university and student representatives.

4.

Financial and Organisational Questions

Financial or organisational difficulties can also arise in connection with care responsibilities.

The AStA offers various counselling and support options. Depending on your personal situation, financial assistance or specific university or student regulations may be relevant.

Feel free to contact us. Together, we can look at which options may be available to you and which contact point you may need to approach.

5.

Do you have a question, a specific problem, an idea for improving study conditions, or would you simply like to find out more about your options?

Then feel free to contact us. Even if you are not yet sure what kind of support you need or whether your concern is something we can help with, you are welcome to get in touch.
